  1. I think your projections are correct, though I would like to see Clooney win for actor and Mara for actress. Didn't think she could pull off Lisbeth Salander, but she was magnificent.

  2. Could you expand on why you think Scorsese should win best director? In my opinion Hugo was an admirable experiment for Scorsese, as both a kid's movie and a 3D pic, but the end result was wildly inconsistent. I thought the whole first half was pretty worthless, with standard bad acting from the kids and boring, condescending kid's movie plotting. The second half is a different story (literally) and I actually thought the movie was brilliant, but I wouldn't give Scorsese the Oscar for this movie, especially next to Terrence Malick.

  3. Nathan, I've let your question simmer and bit, and I think this was the rationale of my decisionmaking at the time: there's no doubt Malick is the greater artist, but as goes the direction itself, I thought Marty was more in gear between these two.
